Glenlake Avenue

From HistoryWiki

Glenlake Avenue Soundex Code G454

6100 N. from 932 W. to 7818 W. This street is in West Ridge and Edgewater - ONLY

John Lewis Cochran, a real estate promoter who developed the community of Edgewater, named this street for Glen Lake, New York. Many Chicago land developers were from "back East", and they named many streets for Eastern towns, resorts, lakes, and other points of interest.

The City Council passed a lengthy ordinance January 14, 1895, rationalizing the street naming system. Because Glenlake Avenue passes through more than one street numbering system, refer to the street numbering conversion table to determine whether an address on Glenlake requires a conversion.

Not listed in the 1895, 1897, 1898, 1901, 1902, 1903, 1904 Chicago Blue Book.
