Second Saturday at the Society is a series of monthly lectures being conducted at the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society, 1447 W. Morse Avenue, every second Saturday of each month, at 10:30 a.m. to noon.

December 2011 History at Your Fingertips. Guest Speakers: Laura Jenkins and Nick Dorochoff.

January 2012

Teri Embrey, the Senior Librarian at the Pritzker Military Library in Chicago. Ms. Embrey was to speak about Angel Guardian Orphanage, which played a significant role in our community’s history, and was located where Misericordia is now.

Ms. Embrey was unable to make the event so a replacement lecture about Abraham Lincoln was presented by Jonathan Dixon and Glenna Eaves.

Will Rye and the curators of the Edgewater Historical Society’s held a discussion of the history of the Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgendered community. They also spoke about their new exhibit “Edgewater PRIDE: Oppression to Expression”

Michael Land, who will present us with useful information about researching the history of your home, and Larry Shure, a local architectural illustrator and researcher whose work has been widely used in area publications.
