1500 W. Juneway Terrace, the Voris House
Circa: 1910
Original Owner: Charles William Ferguson
Present (2009) Owner: Helen and Harold Voris.
This house was part of the 2009 Annual House Tour.
This four-story house was built around 1910 for Charles William Ferguson, the developer of the area north of Howard Street called Germania. No expense was spared, including tongue and groove flooring in the attic and the crawl space.
When the Voris’ moved here in 1983, they had to undo many of the changes made by previous owners, including restoring much of the oak woodwork and the magnificent crown molding in the living room. They also added a bathroom, built a back porch, and put windows on three sides to give views of the large backyard and a little bit of the lake.
The house has the original leaded glass windows, red oak woodwork, and white oak floors. The floors have been finished with Swedish Glista. Mrs. Voris is an avid gardener whose garden has been featured in a Garden Walk.
“We’ve tried to be very respectful of the past and maintain as much as we could,” says Helen Voris.
