The Chicago Motor Coach bus line, 55 Howard-Ashland was started on June 2, 1925. It became the CTA 155 Howard-Ashland on October 1, 1952. Finally, it became route 155 Devon on October 18, 1953.

RPWRHS photo C036-019 shows two buses on Howard Street, An Evanston Bus Company bus is eastbound to the Howard Street Station while a CTA 155 Devon bus is westbound crossing Clark Street. Notice the Howard Bowl, 1777 W. Howard Street, the 2,999-seat Norshore Theater, 1749 W. Howard Street, and the Howard Street Station, 1649 W. Howard Street in the far background. Bus numbers cannot be read so exact models cannot be determined.

RPWRHS photo C036-021 shows a CTA 155 Devon bus number 5905 stopped at the southwest corner of Devon Avenue and Western Avenue. In 1962. Bus 5905 was a Flxible model FT2P-40 built in 1954; one of the 5800-5999 series propane-powered buses operated by CTA in the 1950s and 1960s. Buses of this batch last ran in 1973.

Bus 5941 was a Flxible model FT2P-40 built in 1954-1955 time frame; one of the 5800-5999 series propane-powered buses operated by CTA in the 1950s and 1960s. Buses of this batch last ran in 1973.

RPWRHS photo C036-024 shows eastbound CTA 155 Devon bus number 7432 approaching the southwest corner of Devon Avenue and California Avenue in the rain. In 1976. Bus 7432 was one of 545 General Motors' "New Look", Diesel-powered buses numbered in the 7400-7944 series. The buses were painted in the CTA’s two-tone green scheme, although some were eventually repainted in the CTA’s white, red, and blue paint scheme which was introduced in 1987. Delivery began in 1973 and, while portions of the 7400-series were retired throughout 1990 and 1991, the entire series was not retired until 1996.
