Exterior Only
According to the Chicago Landmarks Historic Resources Survey (1996) (below) this distinctive house with its turret and white terra cotta exterior was designed by Chicago architect David Saul Klafter and built in 1938. Houses of a similar design can be found in other neighborhoods, including West Ridge. The white terra cotta cladding was made by the Terra Cotta Company of Indianapolis, Indiana, which also supplied the terra cotta of the Wrigley Building. In 1911, Klafter was appointed by Mayor Carter Henry Harrison, Jr. to a special board established to protect residential streets from commercial and industrial encroachment. He also served as Cook County Architect from 1941 through 1948.
