Claremont Avenue Soundex Code C465

2323 W. from 7568 N. to 10658 S.

On Monday, August 17, 1807, Robert Fulton's steamboat, Claremont, traveled up the Hudson River from New York City to Albany, New York in 62 hours.

There are two Claremont Avenues to pick from.

1. The old, Edgewater community name, now Catalpa Avenue.

2. The present Claremont Avenue, was Barton Street from Howard Street south to Peterson Avenue.

The City Council passed a lengthy ordinance January 14, 1895, rationalizing the street naming system. Under the old street numbering system, Claremont does not extend farther north than 2967 = 5150. So, none of the West Ridge addresses require conversion.

Not listed in 1895, 1897, 1898, 1901, 1902, 1903, 1904 Chicago Blue Book.
