The Cumberland Post number 737 G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic was started in Rogers Park by veterans of the Civil War. It met in Phoenix Hall, northwest corner, N. Clark Street and W. Greenleaf Avenue the second and fourth Friday evening of each month, except June, July, August, and September when meetings were held only on the second Friday evening. Cornelius Henry Ceperly was a commander of Post 737.
