MSGR. Casey, Priest 58 Years, Is Dead at 82
The Right Reverend Monsignor Joseph A. Casey, 82, pastor of Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 708 W. Belmont Avenue, died Saturday in Columbus Hospital. He had been pastor 41 years and a priest 58 years, and was a member of the Chicago archdiocese school board.
Born in Lockport, Illinois, Monsignor Casey was educated at St. Viator's College, Bourbonnaise, Illinois and St. Mary's Seminary Baltimore, Maryland. He was ordained October 13, 1900, in Holy Name Cathedral. In World War I Monsignor Casey was cited by the government for his work in heading north side churches in the sale of War Bonds. In 1926, he served as secretary to the 28th International Eucharistic Congress held here.
Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial will be at Mount Olive Cemetery, Joliet, Illinois. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Michael A. Maher.
