Joseph F. Gast Monumental Works was the successor company to Buscher & Gast. It was formed when Joseph F. Gast, the son of Engelbert Gast, bought out Christian Buscher, Englebert's partner, in 1906 and renamed the business. The company focused on the design and carving of memorials.

After serving in World War II, Joseph’s son Bert C., who was born in 1875, and who studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, joined the company.
