Marie Karthauser nee: Marie Zender married Nic Karthauser.

Marie Karthauser was cited in History of Rogers Park, Document #34.

"In 1845, my father, John Zender, bought the Ridge Inn from Peter Schmidt. It was a saloon and was built of logs. There were only five houses near the saloon and most of the trade was made up of people traveling to and from Chicago. Indians used to come into the old log house and ask for "firewater" and my father gave it to them out of the jug of whiskey. Ebert's Grove, which is next door to the Ridge Inn, opened a short time after my father started and was run by my brother. They didn't have names like Grove and Inn then, but were just called saloons."
