Larry Tobias
Originally built in 1917, this classic bungalow at 1427 W. Juneway Terrace underwent a complete renovation in 2004, including a full second story addition. The original exterior face brick remains and was matched to the new brick on the second story facade. The inviting arched entry is original to the structure.
The original building footprint and floor plan remained unchanged with the exception of the elimination of a small bedroom to allow for expansion of the kitchen. The homeowners' goal was to bring the home up to today's living standards while maintaining some of the character of homes built in the 1920s.
The home was occupied by William Herbert, a wealthy lumberyard owner whose wife died in an oil tank explosion and fire in 1937. From then until 2004, various members of the Jaycox family lived here. Rumor has it that Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy hosted children's birthday parties here. Some say that a Chicago Mayor lived in the home in the early 1920s.
