Mary Bartelme Elementary School
The Mary Bartelme Elementary School branch of George Armstrong School was named for Mary Margaret Bartelme (Tuesday, July 24, 1866 - Sunday, July 25, 1954) who was the first woman appointed Cook County Public Guardian in Illinois, and the first woman elected judge in a court of high jurisdiction in our state.
In September 1957, a new Chicago elementary school that was named for her opened. It was able to accommodate more than 400 students. Mary Bartelme Elementary School was located at 1914 W. Loyola Avenue in Rogers Park. It was torn down sometime around Thursday, June 25, 1981, to make way for a senior citizen apartment home.
Although not in Rogers Park or West Ridge, there is a Mary Bartelme Park, too.
