Note the change from "Schmitt" to "Schmidt."
In 1849, 25-year-old Peter married 17-year-old Elizabeth Phillipp (a.k.a. Phillippi, or Phillips) born in 1832. She was the daughter of neighboring farmer Jacob Phillipp, who had emigrated seven years earlier in 1842. Jacob ultimately owned several tracts of land at Ridge and Touhy, as well as a flour and feed store in Ridgeville.
In 1895 his son, Peter founded the Phillips State Bank.
