Pulaski Road Soundex Code P420

4000 W. from 6360 N. to 11458 S.

This was originally 40th Avenue.

It was later changed to Crawford Avenue which honored an early West Side and Cicero settler named Peter Crawford. Afterward, the name was once again changed, this time to honor Casimir Pulaski, a Polish hero in the American Revolutionary War.

However the name change from Crawford to Pulaski took nearly twenty years of court battles and ethnic politics to change the name. The battle to change the name began about 1933. By that time, both Crawford and Pulaski were long dead.
