Hamilton, Richard J.

Richard J. Hamilton, was probably the first lawyer in Chicago in 1831. He was also the first Circuit Court Clerk of Cook County and a Chicago real estate developer.

It is believed that Hamilton Avenue might have been named for him. Another thought is that it was named for Alexander Hamilton.
